A USTR A LAS! AN PROSPECTS. NEW YORK. March 21. Tbe "New York Times” in a sports editorial, says: —‘‘Australasia again looms up as the leading contender as the result of the Davis Cup draw. Politeness is agreeable, but there is no sense in disguising the facts. Australasia with Brookes and Patterson and Anderson, Hawkes and others in reserve is practically certain to defeat Canada in (lie first round, and Great Britain, the next most formidable contender, in tlie second round. Australasia in order to proceed to the final round will merely have to defeat tlie winner of the Argeiitine-Deiimark round, blit Brookes and Patterson will doubtless easily accomplish that. Few observers credit Gilbert and Laiirontz with tinpossibility of victory against Kusnage. and Shimidzu and thus Australasia would finally be pitted against Japan with a certain victory for Australia.”
