(Received This Dav at 8 a.m.) ;MEL BOURNE, March 22. A violent hurricane swept the Islands of Edward Pellew group, in the Gulf of Carpentaria, and caused great damage. AN ENQUIRY. (Received this day at 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 22. Mr. Poynton stated a committee had been appointed to conduct a special inquitry into the administration of Cockatoo Island dockl He declined to disclose the nature of the inquiry, but admitted that serious charges had been made. MARINEi ENQUIRY. MELBOURNE, March 22. The Marine Court found the Southern Cross on 14th. September struck Reid Rocks southward of King Island, whilst endeavouring to reach safety, owing to a fire below. She broke up "* rapidly, and there is no possibility that any of the crew were saved.
