AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. THE DAVIS CUP. THE CHALLENGE ROUNDS. NEW YORK, March IT It is understood that Canada will ask 'Australia to visit the United States to play off the preliminary Davis Cup match, and it is expected that the winner will probably also meet the winner of tile Spanish-British match in the United States. It is thought that Japan and the Phillippines will play off in the Orient; Spain and Britain in England; Czecho-Slo-

vakia and Belgium, also France and India 5 in Europe; and the Argentine, and Denmark in the I nited States. The United States Lawn Tennis As- , sociation has announced that the entry list is closed, and that no further challenges will he considered. t (The foregoing Message clears up an obvious error in the cabled draw from New York which stated that Spain would play the United States. The draw should have read ‘'Spain v. British Isles,” as the United States being the holders, do not play in the preliminary rounds. CANADIAN TENNIS. (Received this dny at 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 19. Tlie ‘‘New York Sun” prints' the following Montreal despatch:—‘‘lt is - believed in tennis circles here that the ,• results of the Davis Cup draw will perhaps cause the Canadian entry to he - scratched. It is thought competing in f the first rounds with the Australians, } the-Canadians w ill not have a chance, r ami the Canadian Tennis Association is . not anxious to lose prestige when efforts arc being made to build up the Canadian position in international tennis.”
