LONDON OATHObIC PROTEST LONDON, .March 19 The Sinn Fciners organised a meeting of the London Catholics regarding Cardinal Bourne’s recent remarks on an alleged murder gang in Ireland. The meeting unanimously resolved to protest against Cardinal Bourne’s, pastora 1 letter (as c nbled on February 14). The motion declared that no ecclesiastical dictation oil, political matters lie tolerated.”
A copy of the resolution was ordered to be forwarded to the Pope with mi expression of the meeting’s devoted filial affection., Mr w. McCarthy was chairman. KILLING CIVILIANS. LONDON, March 19. Dublin Castle officially announces that 41 civilians have incidentally beer killed tir wounded in recent attacks in Dublin compared with 25 soldiers and police' in the same episodes.
SINX PKIN li AIDS. LONDON, March 19. Sinn Fein raids in Dublin upon Post Office or other places for money, or attacks upon military, continue daily and almost hourly. The result is a reign of terror. Sinn Feiners last night bombed two motor lorries curving soldiers in Frederick Street. The soldiers saw the intention and shot one man in the act of throwing a bomb and thus escaped any danger. The soldiers then fired a - volley killing four civilians and also a youth It is not yet known whether those killed were among the attackers. Several people were arrested.
The usual thing is that the civilians suffer more than the Sinn Feiners or soldiers in these affairs.
APPEAL for public safety LONDON, March 19. The Dublin Castle authorities appeal to the public to bring pressure to bear upon Michael Collins, Charles Burgess and iKichard Mulcnhey, who they say are responsible for Dublin outrages on the ground that' they are" futile in results, and callous in disregard for public safety. MORE AMBUSHES. (Received this day at 8 a.m.i LONDON, March 20. Five hundred Republicans at Upton, County Cork, attacked a 'military party numbering thirty. Seven soldiers, one policeman and seven Republicans were killed. Military reinforcements arrived and a running cross-country fight ensued. Another military party was ambushed at Dungarven. The fight lasted for six hours, one soldier and several Republicans were killed. A police patrol was ambushed at Castletown-Roch, and Constable Elton was killed. SENTENCES. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, March 20. The sentences of nine ol the sixteen Sinn Feiners at Edinburgh (cabled on te 14th) range from one to five years, including Jean Quinn, twelve months.
