WASHINGTON, March 17 'The Australian Press Association learns that Mr Denby (naval secretary) has not definitely decided to send the American fleet to tour Australasia. Mr Daniels (ex-secretary), last autumn stated lie contemplated such tour, hut the defeat of President Wilson immediately put these plans in abeyance. Mr Denby, who himself plans a three weeks’ inspection tour of the fleet in the Pacific, is somewhat concerned over the cost of a. trip to Australasia. It is understood if the cxepnses are not very huge, he may approve of Mr Daniel’s plans, with some modifications.
TRADE WITH PALESTINE. WASHINGTON, March 17 The announcement is expected shortly of the formation of a five million dollars corporation named the American Palestine Company, to develop the commerce and industry of the Holy Land, the purpose bcinj* to better absorb thousands of Jews woh are migrating there. Local Jews are interested in the flotation of the company. CHICAGO BASEBALL SCANDAL. NEW YORK, March 17. The Chicago Courts have dismissed the indictments against the baseball players who were charged with conspiring to allow their opponents to win the 1920 World Series. On the application of the State Prosecutor, who announced the State’s case had collapsed, owing to repudiation of their confessions by the players, the trial of the gamblers who were alleged to have bribed the players, has been indefinitely postponed. The prosecutions actions caused some amazement in sports circles in America, who are anxious to clear away all suspicion attached to professional baseball. AMERICA AND LEAGUE. i (Received This Day at 9.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 18 It is stated on good authority that more than Article 10 must he eliminated from the League of Nations covenant before the Harding administration will consider making America a party thereto. This statement was made in reply to reports from Paris that M. Viviani was coming to United States to suggest that America become a member of the league on the basis of elimination of Article 10.
