ADDINGTON STORK MARKET

AN EASIER MARKET

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale yesterday:—

Beef.—A very large yarding and prices were considerably easier all round except for best steers. Indifferent sorts and old cows were very much easier. Best steers sold from £l7 4s to £l9 ss, a few extra good to £2l 10s; prime £l3 to £l6 3s; others £8 15s to £l2 Ids. Heifers £5 15s to £ll ss, a few extra good £l4. Cows were in the same projiortion.

Store sheep. A medium entry, composed of mostly ewes and lambs. The market was a little brighter, especially for best sound mouth owes, which sold at from 18s to 225; others from 12s to 15s. Best rape ewes to 145,-others from 10s (id to 12s; best wethers from 8s to 11 s 6d All inferior and travelled sorts were hard to sell at any price.

Store cattle.—A medium yarding and mostly nondescript sorts. Best bullocks made from £6 to £7 ss; others £4 15s to £5 10s. Practically no big bullocks were offered. 18-mos. £3 5s to £4, yearlings 35s to 555; cows 30s to £4 7s 6d. The general tone of the market was despondent. Mutton.—A medium yarding and the market opened slightly firmer than last week, but afterwards eased back to last week’s prices. Best wethers 22s to 26S 6d; prime 19s to 21s; medium 14s to 18s 6d. Ewes were about the same a siast week. The freezing price of sheep per lb was unaltered, hut lambs were penny easier.
