Thomas George Cartwright, was charged in the Police Court with wilfully sotting tiro to a dwelling of four rooms, which was gutted, was remanded for a week. LATH UK \V. T). POWDRELL, M.P. IT A AVER A, March 14. The funeral of the late Mr W. I). Powdrell, M.P., was very largely attended, the Hon 1). H. Guthrie, and representatives of Parliament, local bodies, and institutions with which deceased had been connected, being present. The procession consisted of about seventy motor ears and many citizens on foot, while a large number of people lined the corner of High Street while the funeral passed, all ,paying a . last tribute to a, man who did so much for the district. In some of the churches reference was made to Mr Powdrell, and the Presbyterian congregation passed a motion of sympathy to his relatives. A memorial service was held in the An-li an Church last night.
