THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, March 14. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.in. lion 0. Samuel was re-elected Chairman of Committees. The Address-in-Reply was moved by Hon G. Hall-Jones and was seconded by Hon Izard. The debate was continued by Hon Sinclair and adjourned on the- motion of Hon 11. L. Michel. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. On the motion of Hon Anderson, the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill was introduced and reed a first time. The Mortgages Extension Amendment Rill (Mr MeCallum) was also introduced and read a first time. On tlu> motion of Mr Massey it was agreed to take Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for Government business. At 7.30 p.m. Mr Williams (Poverty! Bay) moved, and Mr Craigie (Timaru) seconded, that a respectful address bo presented to his Excellency the Governor General, in reply to his Excel-1 lonov’s speech. The motion was spoken to by Mr Wilford and Hon Downie Stewart. The deebnte was adjourned on the I motion of Mr Sidoy and the House rose I at 10.(i till 2.30 p.m. next day.
