Brilliant weather prevailed, and Hie wicket was still excellent, though the attendance was small for the second day of the South Australian-Englisli match.
Russell and Rhodes continued for the Englishmen’s innings. The former immediately became aggressive and Rhodes was cautious. He gave two possible chances with succeeding balls off Richardson. one in the slips and the other to the bowler. Russell, scoring fast with faultless strokes overhauled Rhodes scoring 78 to Rhodes’ 42. Alter lunch Russell batting brilliantly, scored all round the wicket. When 137 Rhodes should have boon run out, the wicket keeper failing to take the ball when Rhodes was yards away. Tin* partnership yielded 368, which ovetrenches the world’s record of 328, for the second wicket
Rhodes, batting cautiously, brought up his second century. When 201 he missed a googley from Smith and was stumped. He hatted 315 minutes and hit 17 fours. Douglas and Woolley ployed out time. Woolley hitting 20 off one of Smith’s overs including a magnificent sixer into the Pavilion.
