At the Eoxton Magistrate's Court on Friday, before Air J. L. Stout, S.M., 28 persons charged with playing two-up wore each fined £5 and costs. The charges had been adjourned at the previous sitting, to hear legal argument on the definition of a public place. The rendezvous of the party was a borough reserve, let on lease, which the Magistrate ruled was a public place in accordance with a Supreme Court judgment in a similar case.

In a reserved judgment, the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) ruled that officers ol the Post Office had the right of appeal against the decisions of officers granting special increments ui £4O, and claimed that the reports on his work, efficiency, and ability entitled him to treble increment, such as had been given to certain other officers. The Appeal Hoard held that no appeal could lie, hut the decision is reversed bv the Chief Justice.
