OPENING OF PARLIAMENT

WELLINGTON, March 10

The second session of the twentieth Parliament was opened in the afternoon by Lord Jellicoe, Governor-General. Immediately on arrived at Parliament buildings he proceeded to the Legislative Council whore ho read his speech. On members of the House of Representatives returning from the Upper Chamlner, Mr Williams gave notice of his intention lo move an address in reply on Monday. Mr Wilford gave notice of an amendment to the effect that while the House recognised the wisdom of New Zealand being adequately represented at the Imperial Conference, it entered an emphatic protest against holding up the business of the country by the prorogation of Parliament so long beyond the usual time.

The Expiring Laws Continuance Pill was read a first time on the motion of the Premier.

Mr Anderson gave notice of his intion to introduce a Shops and Offices Amendment Bill.

The House then rose.
