Receiv- j od, as very satisfactory. i From same replying that a survey of I the site for AYaiho Gorge bridge had been made, and the structure was now being designed. Tbe bridge will lie probably of tbe suspension type. —Received with thanks. From John Hewer, licit ;m. lorwarding copy of a letter sent to the Minister of Justice, and asking support to a proposal to hold sittings of A.lagistrate's Court at Hari Ifari when the S.M. was on tile Okarito circuit to avoid costs to litigants attending either Ross or Okarito courts.— Received and agreed to support, it being stated a sittings oi -he Alagistrate s Court would he held at Hari Mari next week. From Whiteombe and Tombs Ltd., Christchurch regarding publication of a history of Westland. —Received; It was reported that Air A. J. llarrop was here recently, and as a result ot a discussion, an appeal had beetle math to the Government Department through Air Seddon AI.P. to assist in the publication. and that on receipt of a reply the matter would be further considered by the sub-eommittee which had tbe matter in hand. From Forestry Department forwarding copy of the Director’s inaugural re-port.--Received with thanks and laid on table. j GENERAL, j Accounts to the amount of L'.'2o were ! passed for payment. j Air C. J. I’. Sellers was elected a j member of the Chamber. | A vote of thanks was passed to Mr I AY. J. Butler for .the able mannei; in ] which he had put issues affecting taxaj tion before the Rt Hoif. the Prime Alinister. On the motion of Air Butler, seconded by Air Ford, a vote of appreciation was recorded on the minutes to Mr P. I’. Stewart, who had left the district. and a letter of thanks is to he sent to him acknowledging his past services to the Chamber and the district. The Chairman referred to the liold--1 up of commodities as a result ot the present difficulties on the water front, and the loss being incurred and the inconvenience caused by the undue protraction of the present trouble. The matter was generally 'discussed, the feeling being that tbe Government, as the authoritative power in tbe land should step in, and take measures to deal with the situation. Finally, it was resolved on the motion of Air Ritchie, that the Prime Alinister he communicated with, and the Government urged to take action to i ensure the loading and discharging of the community’s commodities be proceeded with without the present enforced interruption. i Enquiry was made if further action could bo taken regarding the price of gold. It was stated a. conference arranged from Otago was to be held at ; Wellington on Saturday, and the Rimu Miners’ Association ha.il been asked to participate.
