[by telegraph—per press association] WELLINGTON, Alarch G. In the Ladies’ Swimming Championship for the 220 yards on Saturday Aliss G. IShand (Christchurch), who had broken the 440 yards world’s record at Dunedin, made an attempt to set up fresh figures for the 220 yards. The weather conditions were favourable. Miss Shand, whose only competitor was Aliss Gristed (Christchurch), completed the course in three minutes, seven and four-fifths, seconds which will go down as a New Zealand record. The Australasian and world’s record for the distance, however is still held hv Afiss Fanny Durack, of Sydney. Tt is two minutes 56 seconds. The 100 yards Wellington Provincial Championship was won by D. J. Murrel, who defeated the holder, E. G j L. Patterson in 60 4-5 sees. QUEENSLAND CITAAfPIONSITIP. BRISBANE. March 6.
