A little girl who was paddling or bathing in the river, got into difficulties in deep watej\ and William Henry Boyes, an insurance agent, jumped into the river fully dressed, and failed to come up again. The girl was eventually saved. A young man made several attempts to reach Boyes’ body which could Ih* seen Irom a bridge, but without avail. The body was recovered some 25 minutes later, but efforts to restore the man to consciousness were unsuccessful. Boyes was a married man with two children. BADLY BURNED. AUCKLAND, March 7. E. L. C'lfalmers was badly burned on Saturday evening through a fire on a launch, caused by a vessel containing kerosene instead of water, being placed on the stove. The launch was enveloped in flames and Chalmers failing to extinguish them, jumped overboard se- . verely burned. He was insisted ashore and the fire on the launch was extinguishod. Chalmers is in the hospital. , THREE DROWNING ACCIDENTS. WANGANUI, March 7. Three drowning fatalities occurred during the week-end in the vicinity of Wanganui. On Saturday afternoon a boy, Alfred Edward Waterhouse, was drowned in the river. His body was recovered two hours later. On Sunday morning, a man, Alfred Edward Booth, was drowned in Wangaelui river near Hangamahu. While bathing he got out of his depth. He was unable to swim. A companion named Ferguson, recovered the body five minutes later, but respiration efforts were unsuccessful. Deceased was aged 20. a native of England. A Maori boy, Patrick Paki, was drowned in Lake Ratan yesterday. The body has not been recovered. TELEGRAPH HOURS.
