At, the Magistrate’s Court to-day I Matthew Livingstone previously uci quitted at the Supreme Court on a I charge of carrying on business as a ' bookmaker, was charged with issuing • double cards on races. Counsel for defendant entered a plea, “autrefois acquit.” contending that the Supreme Court charge accumulated the effect of tin l charges now preferred against Livingstone. The Magistrate refused to accept counsel's plea, declaring that defendant would have to satisfactorily prove lie was acquitted on an identical charge.
