This news is con- * veyed in the following letter, dated Decemher IStli last, received by the . Prime Minister from Mrs Charlotte AI. I Salwey, who signs herself as “Guardian of the N.Z. Soldiers’ Graves, lirockenhurst Chureliyard, Hants, England” Dear sir,—Having been one of the favoured recipients of a packet (forwarded from the High Commissioner’s Office, London) on the 14th instant, containing a copy of “Ne.v Zealand’s thanks,” and your own mos( kind letter of appreciation of the little services we were able to render to the X.Z.E.E. stationed in our midst during the war, permit me to offer my most sincere thanks to your Government, people, and yourself for all the courteous remarks which will ever be highly valued. “It is now that the greatest privilege is ours. Nearly 100 of Now Zealand’s sons who paid the supreme .sacrifice lie at rest in our historic churchyard c‘ Urockenburst, Hants. In order to keep in perpetual remembrance the noble deeds of these soldiers of the X.Z.E.E. we have organised a ‘Roll of Honour Guild,’ which is composed ol able and voluntary workers. The en- | closures will (several excellent photographs of the graves) give an idea of j our work. The bill overlooking the little village where the Ne.v Zealand General Hospital (No 1) was organised is crowned with white crosses- a lasting testimony to the loyalty, honour, and glorv of the people ol New Zealand. These graves will ever be tended and eared for: both lor the sake of 1 those who gave up their lives for the 1 peace of the world and all mankind, i' s I well as for those who mourn for their | beloved ones, who must for ever remain • 1 with ns. May the work my guild lias 1 undertaken help to bind our land and * yours in a deeper brotherhood than lias 1 ever before existed. It is quite pos- 1 si hie you may have heard of the Roll of ) Honour Guiid. It is with great satis- *’ faction and pleasure I enclose the a photographs.” !l
