SMOKE CONCERT.

On Thursday evening in Alclntosh’s Club over 30 members of the Hokitika Branch of the Public Service Association assembled at a smoke concert tendered to their visiting General Secretary, AH F. AA r . Alillar. Alessrs A. U. Stuart and L. L. Hills represented the P.Amd T. Association. Air J. Stevenson (Chief Draughtsman) presided. Apologies were received for the absence of several members absent from town on official duty; also from Alessrs W. P. Payne (X.Z.R.), Air Irving i.'Post Office), and Air R. G. Cargow (Grcymouth Section). Host Alclntosh had the table covered with a goodly supply of tasty delicacies etc. A large number of association affairs were discussed. The proceedings opened ith the usual toast to the King. Other toasts were “The Guest of the EvenJig,”- coupled with the Executive of the Public Service Association (pro-

posed by the Chairman). Air Alillar in hi reply, gave a lengthy and interesting account of the P.S.A. and its pre•*.nt aims and objects. .Mr Goo. Worm'll,Jon proposed “Kindred Assoeiaions,” which was ably replied to by .!;■ 1.. L. Hills (P. and T. Association •::ecul ivoL Air Alillar proposed “! hr ' ua i ti: cuts,” responded to by Messrs A. J. Rossiter i Lands), W. P. Morgan ■ Lands and Deeds), J. X. Xalder (Justice). Air J. P. Ward proposed “The Musicians,” which was drank with nusieal honours. During the evening niigs were given by .Messrs A. J. Rossiter, J, Conning, B. Dowell and W. ('lost*, and other items by Messrs Ward and Conning. The accompanists for the evening were Alessrs Rossiter, Wcgan and Heinz. The gathering was brought to it close with l,!:e National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne.
