POLITICAL.

THE SHORT SESSION

Members of the Opposition doubt very much whether the coining, session of Parliament will last only ten days. A somewhat lengthy discussion, they state, is likely to take place on the Address-in-Reply, which allows members greater freedom of debate than does an Imprest Supply Rill. Various acts of the Government are likely to be discussed, not only by the Labour Party, but also by other sections opposing tlie present Administration. One of the matters that will he taken exception to is the proposed appointment of an Acting-Prime .Minister who is not an elected representative of the people.

So far as can be gathered, there will, not be any very serious opposition to .Mr Massey attending tin’ Conference in England. The main opposition Ui that may be expected to come from the Labour Party. During his recent visit to the West Coast of the South Island, the Prime .Minister said that there was now no Opposition party in Parliament except the little group led by Mr Holland.

Asked to-day if lie had any reply to make to that statement, Mr Wilford said: “Mr Massey has said that there is no Opposition in Parliament other than the little group led by Mr Holland. Mr Wilford says that Mr Massey stated that when he got into power he would repeal the second ballot and place some other.form ot electing the representatives of the people in its place. The opposition to the acts of the Reform. Party will be expressed when Parliament meets, in the constitutional way.”
