Westland Acclimatisation Society
TUESDAY, FEB. 22nd. A meeting of the Council of th above was held at tile County Chambei at 7.30 o’clock. Present:—Messrs I J. Evans (in the chair), W. Braddor E. J. Lloyd, A. B. King, G. D. Seak and Jas King (lion sec). The minutes of the previous meetin were read and confirmed, and the out ward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Inspector of Machinery, detail ing equipment requisite for tow boat a Lake Kanieri.—Received and author ised. it was resoived, also, to procur a roll ot wire netting for trapping pui poses in the spa wing season. From Inspector of Fisheries, ackuow lodging report of appearance of wiia was believed to he the fry of white fisJ in Lake Kanieri, and stating he hai recommended the Minister to authoris experimental netting in the lake.—Re ceived as satisfactory. From Department of Internal Affairs on the subject of deer shooting season and reporting issue of regulations ti permit of three head being taken undei license, the fee to he increased cor respondingly.—Received with thanks. From Same, acknowledging reques for an open season for native pigeon kaka, and pukaki, hut stating it win not likely the application could he nc ceded to.—Received. From N.Z. Acclimatisation Societie: Conference, notifying deer tabs were available on application, and annua subscription fee was now payable.—Re ceived, labels to the applied for, an<
subscription fee passed for payment. From J. Forties, Christchurch, forwarding fees for eight deer shooting licenses in South Westland in accordance with previous applications.—Re ceived with thanks. From G. Cooper, Wellington, forwarding a donation of ten guineas to the funds of the Society to assist in the cost of culling the deer herds in South Westland, and pointing out sportsmen should he grateful for the work Societies were doing in regard to the maintenance of game, and should he ready to assist in a practical way as opportunity offered. —Received, and donation to he acknowledged with a letter of thanks. From Stewart and Coy., Edinburgh,
acknowledging fresh matter for second edition of "Beautiful Westland” and promising all despatch.—Received. The Hon Secretary reported there was a steady demand for the illustrated booklet, and it was advisable t.i order a second edition, which would contain a series of views relating to the Prince’s visit to Westland. The new booklet would be on’ sale in a few months’ time. From Dixon Bros., Greymoutli, forwarding cheque and ordering furthei supplies of "Beautiful Westland” which was a very popular publication. Received. From F. Gunn, Wataroa^ asking permission to transfer trout to some of the streams south of the Watarpa liver, — Received and agreed to, Mr Gunn’s interest in the matter being appreciated. From E. J. Mulhern, Marlborough, applviiig for a deer stalking license for Ilaast, and looking forward to revisiting Westland.—Received, and application declined, as all available shooting country had been allocated previously. From Harris Bros., Hllhuka, accepting shooting license for llaast and Okuru river beds.—-Received. From S. W. Ridlatid, caretaker, notifying traffic to Lake Kanieri lor past two months. January month was a record for visitors.—Received. It was - resolved owing to the increased cost for benzine and other supplies to advance slightly the charges for the motor boat trips on Lake Kanieri. The minimum charge for the motor trip was fixed at los; seven passengers 2s (id per head ; eight or more passengers, 2s per head. Accounts amounting to £7l 13s wore passed for payment, The Seerotary reported that this would exhaust the credit balance of the Society for the time being. A reference was made to the wholesale destruction of opossums in the district, and it was resolved to ask that a reason he declared as soon as possible, and a license fee charged for taking the skins.
