Downie S l -"'- art M.P., for Dunedin West, had been selected as the new Minister in mce of Sir Win. Herries, who resigned the portfolios of Labour, Native Affairs,Marine and Customs but not his membership of the Executive, before leaving for the Old Country.

Hon. Mr Stewart is to take over the portfolio of Internal Affairs from Mr Anderson and will hold one other, while Mr Anderson retains the Labour and the Government Printing Department portfolios and will hold one >thov. Readjustments are to be complete before the House meets on March 10.

freezing works dispute

SETTLED

GISBORNE, February 22. The Waipaoa Freezing Works disput, causing the “go-slow” policy of mutton butchers, which commenced last Thursday, was settled to-d!ay. Aftei a conference between the directors of the company and the men’s representatives, the conference arrived at. a solution, the men being granted an increaso of eighteen pence per hundred, making the present scale £2 ss. 4d. Work will resume to-morrow morning. This dispute effected over 200 men.
