HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT
WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. The Department of Agriculture lias, received the following cablegram, dated February 12th, from tluvlligli Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — M EAT. Home-killed prices have declined, owing to the large supply ot chilled loci’. Average prices are: —Heel Is 5(1, mutton Is 9d, lamb 2s OJ-d per lb. Chilled beef lores are realising 8d per lh, but hinds vary from ltljd to Is per lh. The New Zealand beef demand is reduced for this reason. New Zealand lamb and light-weight mutton are in active demand and light-weight mutton are in active demand at full prices. A report is current that a large quantity uf New Zealand lamb is being re-ship-ped to this country from America, and this is limiting c.i.f business. There is a moderate quantity of Dutch pork on the market, in good demanif at Is Id per lb. BUTTER. Irish, new-made, .unsalted, creamery, is selling at L 1.7 IDs per cwt Rls LJd per lh). Irish, ex stores, till per cwt (2s (id per lb). The price of Danish for this country last week was L'll (is per cut (2s per lb) f.ob. Government butter shows no change in the priece, which is Cl 4 18s 8d per cwt wholesale, ami .'is per lb retail, but some retailers are selling at 2s llld and 2s lid per lb. CHEESE. The market remains unchanged. Canadian is slow of sale at £7 14s to L'7 18s per cut ils 4.1 d to Is l:jd per lb), white; C 7 18 s to C'B per cwt (approx. Is dd per llit, coloured. New Zealand is quoted at from C 7 12s to £7 His per cwt (Is -l.)d to Is 4;|d per lb) for white and C 7 10s to £8 per cwt (lsdjd to Is od per lb), coloured. HEMP. The Manilla market continues dull, and prices are again lower. .) grade, Kelirtia ry-April shipment, sold early this week at £4B 10s per ton. Decemh-er-.lannary to February-April sbipments are now (pioted at £47 per ton. The New Zealand market is weak and inactive. High points on spot are now piloted at £SO; fair, £4B per ton, with speculative sellers at £2 to £3 less foP forward shipments. WOOL.
At Thursday’s Government salt's at Liverpool, 15,521 bales of Australian and 5219 bales of New Zealand were offered. There was a large attndance of the Horne trade, and with Continental and American support competition was keen, and 75 per cent of the offering was cleared, the withdrawals 1 icing chiefly scoured and slipe crossbreds and medium and low greasy pieces. Prices were firm at last London sales rativs for better qualify merinos. Cross-hreds were easier, espoialh for lower qualities. New Zealand greasy made 9id to Is 2d per lb. HONEY.
