VARIOUS DOMINION ITEMS.
. [BY TELEGRAPH PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'] FOR ESTR Y APPOINTMENT. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb 14. Mr Camille M. Malfroy, whose appointment to the Forestry Department as special officer and expert timberman adviser to the head office is announced,
is a native of Ross, and a son of one of the pioneer sawmillers of the AAest Coast during the past thirty years. Mr Malfroy has had experience in all branches of the‘timber industry. Mi Malfroy served his apprenticeship with an engineering firm on the Coast, and afterwards had a spell at sea on vessels of the Union Coy’s fleet, and obtained a marine engineer’s certificate. Later be returned to the AA est Coast and managed the sawmilling and timber business of J. C. Malfroy and Co. There are few men in the Dominion -better qualified for the important position to which he lias been appointed than Mr Malfroy, who has been a resident of Christchurch for the past two years, ■ind has represented the AA’est Coast on the Canterbury Automobile. Association and Canterbury Progress League. DEATH OF KEVIN DILLON. AY K LUNG TON, February 15. Air Kevin Dillon the well-known elowitionist (formerly of Greymouth) died uuldcnly from the effects of ptomaine poisoning on Sunday. Peritonitis sunervened and an operation was performed but the deceased gradually sank. Ho was 18 years *of age and leaves a widow I and four young children.
• A.S.R.S. UNSATISFIED. DUNEDIN, February 15. The Hillside Branch of the A.S.R.S. resolved that this meeting enters an emphatic protest against the decision of the Wages Board and is of opinion that the Conference in Wellington showed a laxity of judgment in endorsing the finding of the Board. Further, this meeting instructs the Executive /to reopen the matter with tho Department and if the Council fails to agree to this request, this meeting calls upon it to resign. COAL OUTPUT. i C.REYMOUTH, This Day. Tli e West Coast Coal mines working steadily. Last week’s output was 10,044 tons 14 cwt.
SHIP’S OFFICER MISSING. AUCKLAND, February 16. Fred Banks second officer of the steamer Corinna is missing.. He had been on shore leave at Onehunga and did not return to the Corinna when the vessel sailed South on Tuesday last. No trace of his whereabouts has been found
