THE BETTER OUTLOOK
There is diversity of opinion in the dairy produce trade (says the “Age”) as to what will happen when the eontract with Australia expires on March 31. It is agreed that the local price will be governed by the price in the London market. One merchant states that at the time of the expiration of the contract, as far as Victoria was concerned, the output would ho only sufficient for local needs. Margarine is being used in England, and buttei mediants, being left with large stocks on band,, are compelled to reduce price in order to effect sales. Tlu* present price of Danish butter is 266 s Eo.h. Denmark, which is «s below the existing Australian contract price. Already a number of Australian merchants are negotiating with their private agents in London in order to dispose of their butter when the free market exists. Many merchants, however state that it is yet too soon to predict what will actually happen.
