PARIS, Dec 16. | Trousers-uearing in public is now cumpulsoiy for men of the American colony of the Philippine Islands. The penalty for appearing in the streets without trousers, according to a telegram received in Paris, is 15 years' imprisonment. ! It is stated that the first result of the new law lias been a demand for 500,000 pairs of ready-made trousers. This represents the number of Filipinos who are obliged to stay indoors owing to the inadequacy of their wardrobe.
