RZOSKA MURDER CASE

ACCUSED BEFORE COURT.

WELLINGTON, Feb. 2

The murder trial of Frederick Thompson of Carterton, who it is sought to prove is responsible for the death of Anthony Rzcska on November 20, was commenced at the Supreme Court today. Accused pleaded not guilty. The facts adduced in evidence by the Crown prosecutor state that on the afternoon of December 20th, deceased and some companions including accused bad drinks together and then proceeded to the latter’s whare. On the way IC'.oska attempted to pick a fight with | Thompson, but after some words they went on to the latter’s whare. During a conversation an argument arose and Rzoska was heard to ask, “Who brought, you home?” Thompson replied, “No one. but myself. There must either be some liars or some tools amongst us, ami its not mo, so it must be you Tony!” Deceased retorted, “If its me I am quite able to stand up to |t.” He then took of! bis coat and threw it to someone in the doorway. Thompson said, “(Jet out of my house,” A shot was then fired and Rzoska fell. No witness actually saw the shot fired. Banska made no attempt to strike Thompson belore the shot was filed. A revolver was found under the whare. Deceased in his dying statement deposed that “’Fred” had done it, he was the man alright., it was Fred Thompson.” Opening the case for defence, Mr Hillman said Thompson had tried to avoid trouble. No weapon had been seen in his hand. Coynsel suggested to the Jury that seeing the revolver lying near, Thompson made a grab at it and it wont oil.

Frederick Thompson, giving evidence on a charge against him of murdering Anthony Rzoska at Carterton, corroborated the witnesses story as to the talk of a light. He added, that seeing Rzoska grab for the revolver, lie grabbed it too. Roth gripped the revolver, there was a scuffle, the rovolvci went oil, and Rzoska fell. He had no intention of shooting him with the revolver, but tried to get the revolver to prevent any trouble. ■ The case is proceeding.
