PRIZE AWARDS 1921-22

WELLINGTON, jJan. 25

The following awards of special prizes were approved:—Professor MacMillan Brown’s prize (for English essay or poem), W. W. Bridgman, Green Island, Dunedin. For poem on the theme that : “It is only with self-renuncia-tion that life properly speaking begins”. Arnold Atkinson Memorial Prize; John Nieol, Wanganui, for the essay subject for essay for the Anold Atkinson prize for 1921 is: ‘‘New Zealand Government of Western Samoa and the Cook Islands,” and for the Professor MacMillan Brown Prize tho essay for 1922 is entitled, ‘‘A Waterless Utopia.” No award was made in the Lcydon Prize for 1920, but it was recommended that the prize be offered in 1921, when the subject will be ‘‘The Pacific as the Naval Storm Centre of the “World.”

SUPPOSED DROWNING CASE. FOXTON, January 26. A ease of supposed drowning in Manawatu River, at Paiaka, was reported to the police.
