BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. HOT WEATHER. (Received This Day at 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan 26. The weather is very hot throughout the Commonwealth. THE STEWARDS GIVE WAY. SYDNEY, Jan 26. The Marine Stewards’ and Federated Seamen’s union have issued official state merits announcing they are prepared to give an undertaking for peaceful running of the shipping industry, and the joh control system is not to be persisted on in the future. The question, however, is whether the ship-owners will consider this undertaking sufficient and binding in view of the fact that transport workers federation at a previous mass meeting, advocated the formation of a job control committee in each ship. The Union Company announces that as soon as advice is received from Melbourne that the strike is satisfactorily settled, the Maheno,. Manuka and Nia gara will sail for New Zealand.

The Secretary of the Sydney Branch of the Seamens Union resents the suggestion that the seamen will, -carry “job control” into ships. Another official of the union declared that “job control” on a steamer was impossible because the captain was the only control permitted. The general secretary of the Stewards Union denied that the question of “job control” was discussed, but he would not give an assurance that it would not be put into action at any time. Loical shipowners are reticent regarding the position, but regard the “job control” suggestion as likely to act as a deterrent to a settlement. A BELGIAN ORDER. MELBOURNE, January 26.
