WELLINGTON, Jan 25. The decision of the recent .Wheat Conference was reviewed at this morning’s meeting of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, when a letter was received from the Otago Provincial Union, ; asking the Executive to ask the Government to give the growers a. free market. Mr G. P. Johnston. Southland, moved that another vote he taken through the executives of afl branches of the Farmers’ Union. He said that, personally. he was against Government control; hut had moved the motion because at the Conference in Christchurch 50 per cent, of those present had Hot excrised their votes. In the discussion following the motion practically all the representatives present wero opposed to the continuance of the Government control.
Mr Moss, vice-president, said that until Government control was removed and the law of supply and demand allowed to operate, the cost of living problem could not be solved. Mr G. L .Marshall, Wellington, moved as an amendment : That the Excretive agrees with the decision of the Christchurch conference that the Government control of wheat prices be discontinued after this year.
Mr J. Livingstone, Southern Hawkes Bay, seconded the amendment , which was carried.
Mr Marshall was appointed to represent the North Island wheat growers at a further conference with the Minister of Agriculture.
