CHRISTCHURCH, .January 25. i John Rapley, employed as a carrier, i was admitfed to the hospital suffering from a razor slash extending from the right ear to the throat. Tt is stated ! that last evening Rapley had a dispute at Addington with a man named Richard Hitchens, and the injuries were inflicted during the fracas. The police are searching for Hitchens on a charge of attempted murder. Rapley’s condition is serious. TWO MONTHS’ HARD. DARGAVILLE, January 25. At the Police Court this morning Hoke Martin and James Ryan were sentenced to two months’ hard labour for playing unlawful games, viz spin-

Hie local Philosopliicnl Society extended a welcome and paid a graceful tribute to the memory of the late Kenneth Wi'son who practically organised the local society. and worked hard to have the Congress in Palmerston North. , Professor Easterfield presided, and laid stress on the value of the Congress. Hie delegates were c : lit into sections and arranged the order of papers. An excursion of botanists to Tiritea scenic reserve takes place in the afternoon.
