A special meeting of the Australian Mutual Provident Society considered a motion advocating repayment of all war risk premiums taken out by sailors and soldiers going to the war Tit? Directorates strongly opposed the idea and the motion was defeated by 08 to 33, necessitating a special ballot which resulted—for a refund 5494, against 40,120. Mr Ml Gregor, British trade Commissioner, stated Germany was making determined efforts to resume pre-war trade relations with the world. There was a growing feeling in England in favour of an anti-Diimping Bill to protect the British key industries and prevent the Hooding of British markets with goods from European countries, whose exchange had‘■collapsed. It was generally admitted that the difficult financial position betwee.n England and Australia, would continue for two or three months. The banks, meantime, wore doing everything practicable to relieve matters.
