WELLINGTON, Jan 21. The Railway Department is still con- ! sidering the demands of firemen in the j Wellington district, coupled with the i strike notice, which is taking effect from midnight on Sunday. Representa tives of the Department and the firemen met in conference this afternoon to discuss the point at issue. Mr Massey (Minister of Railways), interviewed late to-night, said"that ho lias at yet no statement to make on the matter. Tho General Manager was also approached at a late hour, hut he said the matter was still under consideration. Mr McArley (Union Seretnry), who is hack in Wellington to-day, also told a pressman that he had no statement j to make.
