FOREST POLICY
DISCUSSED HY DOMINION SAW-
MILLERS. [ JIV TKl.HfiltAlMl—-PKU I‘HKSS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. The Dominion Sawmillers have been considering the statement of forest policy submitted by Sir E. D. Bell, and while suggesting some variations in the matter of detail, have declared tlieir willingness to co-operate with the Government.

The memorandum provides tor the promotion of research, sale ot timber, prevention aggregation, undivided control and working methods. The results hoped for are set out as conlnued supplies, adequate protection of all water supply sources, utilisation of forest soils, closest- use of all forest resources and stability of timber industry. The question of restricting timber export was also diseussel. On behalf of the millers of Duller it was emphasised the need .for exchange with Australia. We wantel jarraih and they required kauri and white pine. If Australia -adopted the same attitude, timber' would not be worked. The MfiU ister stated J-hc Department Had never refused to allow’ the exchange timber and did not propose to do 'so nmv.
