Naval Commander Heincke, Avho commanded the fortress of Cuxhaven when Allied officers Avere recently insulted there, and Avhose dismissal was demanded by the Inter-Allied Naval Commission. has been promoted to Captain. It is semi-officially stated that an investigation proved that Heincke, AA r as not in any Avay to blame.
COMMISSION’S FINDING. (Received This Day at 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 20. A Royal Commission has issued its award on the British South Africa Company’s claim, cabled on 29th. July 1918. The company claimed £7,866,000 under the Privy Council decision for
administering territory to tho end of March 1918. The Commission finds tho amount due is £4,435,000 without interest. THE BROKEN CONTRACT. (Received This Day at 9.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan 16. Air Brady confirms the-“ Times” state ment that the Dempsey-Carpentier bout is cancelled. He declared that under the original contract their relations were dissolved once Carpentier and Dempsey had not deposited the guarantee sum. Carpentier Avas unable to transfer fifty thousand dollars In gold from France oAving to the" Government prohibition. Brady added that himself and Cochrane has dissociated completely from the present arrangement. Any « bout betAA-een Dempsey and Carpentier would only be possible under a neAV contract.
A FINANCIAL DISASTER. (Received This Day at 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 19. The creditors of .the Bristol Dominion Producers Association have decided upon voluntary liquidation. A report presented to the meeting of shareholders stated heavy losses were made after 1919, oAving to falling market and diminished sales of canned goods. This resulted in a loss of thirty-one thousand. The loss on Syrup Avas fifty-eight thousand. Unsecured liabilities were £87,000 and secured creditors £45,000. In addition the Ministry of food claimed to be a preferential creditor for £48,000 which ,\A'ould sAveep aavay all the available- assets, hut this .preference would be resisted to the last. The capital which Avas increased to £55,000 in 1920, has been Avholly lost. WORKERS ATTITUDE.
