ed that the Dempsey-Carpentier bout has been cancelled, due to the failure of Iveliriis, Desehamps, Rickard and Brady to deposit sums as a guarantee of good faith. Cochrane alone deposited 33,333 dollars. Kearns and Desehamps were supposed to deposited fifty thousand each and Rickard and Brady 33,333 each. The contract stipulated that deposits should be made beforo 20|th. November 1920. It is also understood that Uie Wil-lard-Deinpsey match in Madison Square garden on 17th. March has been cancelled. The State Boxing Commission recently adopted a ruling limiting the maximum admission charge to fifteen
dollars. The Bout, therefore is no longer profitable. Rickard denies the “Times” statement that the DempseyCarpentier fight lias been cancelled and says the match will take place positively on 2nd July, either in Canada or England. Rickard says every cent that the articles call for, has been posted to the banks here. LONDON, January 19. Cochrane states if the American match between Carpentfer and Dempsey is definitely dff, he will offer,a purse of one hundred thousand for the men u box in England. Carpentier, who is in England states the match is not off, that he paid his forfeit on November 20th. Cochrane understands the French Government would not allow Cnrpentier’s money to leave France.
