VISIT OF MR BIBKS

Mr Birks, chief Government Electrical Engineer, who is visiting the West Coast inspecting the various hydroelectric schemes, visited Lake Brunner yesterday and in the evening addressed a meeting at Greymouth. This morning Mr Birks came on to Hokitika by the early,train and shortly after 9 o’clock left I>y motor car to visit Tonroha, at the head of the Kokatahi Valley. The party included Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., Messrs J. A. Murdoch (County Chairman), Orr-Walker S.M., It. S. Galbraith (Commissioner of Crown Lands), Cranston (Rimu Dredging Coy.), Park, Nalder, Evans (Coitnty Clerk). ADDRESS, FRIDAY EVENING. To-morrow (Friday) evening at 8 o’clock, Mr Birks will address a public meeting at the Town Hall. Ladies are specially invited and as the subject matter of the address will be of a most interesting nature affecting the interests of the whole district it is hoped that there will be a large attendance. The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) will preside. The subject is of such interest to the whole district, affecting everyone that it behoves all able to attend to make a point of so doing, the whole future welfare of; the town being bound up in the progress of the electric power scheme that may be decided upon.
