— DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. DUNEDIN, January 17. The local wool sales will not begin until Wednesday, owing to the buyers being delayed over the Christchurch sales? Though the catalogue will not be completed until this evening, it is anticipated that it will aggregate about 9000 biil.es. This, of course, is a very small offering. As a comparison it may be mentioned that at the last auction sales (before the Government commandeer came into force), in December, 1915, and February, 1916, the offerings were 16,000 and 24,000 bales respectively. At present growers are holding back in the hope of better prices later. There is n general uncertainty as to how matters will develop it being thought that the Australian realisation scheme for one thing will he a big factor in determining prices in the near future. Whether New Zealand will participate in the scheme or inaugurate one of her own is not jet known. The slight improvement manifested at the Christchurch sales prompts the feeling that the same level at least may he reached here, but it is impossible to make any reliable forecast.
