The Attorney-General ‘ms inves. tigated the whole position, and has come to the conclusion that competition, speculation and increased costs were responsible for the situation. One sugar estate on the fall of the market lost £OOO,OOO alone. But the real cause of the trouble was one lo which too little consideration is given. It is that English and Canadian buyers cam©/ into the market as buyers on a largo scale. Then speculation commenced, and with buyers wanting sugar and speculators operating further consumers iset about purchasing until prices reached an unprecedented level. After that came stagnation and then the collapse.
