[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] FIRE ON NAVUA. AUCKLAND, January 18. A fire broke out in the coal bunkers of the Navua early this morning and was extinguished by the fire brigade No damage was done to the vessel or the cargo. FINED £3. GISBORNE, January 18. Settlers, Stratford and Hunt were fined three pounds - for a breach of the railway regulations by taking blasting powder on a train, resulting ,in the recent explosion. A £3O FINE. GISBORNE, January 18. A country storekeeper was fined thirty pounds for giving a keg of beer at Christmas to Maoris.
HARBOR SCHEMES.
GISBORNE, January 18
The Harbour Board received a report from Captain Haytor of the Port Adelaide, and Platts of the Te Anau, giving shipmaster’s opinion on the rival har-bour-schemes. These emphatically declared favourable to Leslie Reynolds’ scheme. The Board decide# to forward the report to the Engineering Commission for its consideration.
LANDING A PASSENGER
GISBORNE, January 18
In reference to a Hastings telegram stating Miss Bleibtroy could not have landed till Sunday, the facts are that the Mararoa’s passengers experienced no difficulty in landing on Saturday evening, the sea being calm. Arrangements had been made to bring the swimmer ashore in a special launch ini mediately on arrival. OAMARU HIGH SCHOOL. OAMARtT, Jan 18. At a meeting of the High School Board Lie tender of £6,863 was accepted for reinstatement of buildings of the Boys’ High School, destroyed by firv. Mr James Mitchell was elected Chairman.
