THUD WOOL SALK

HELD IN CHRISTCHURCH

COMPARISON OF VALUES

[by telegraph-—per press association]

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan 14. The third wool sale in Christchurch since the commandeer was held to-day, when 21,784, hales compared with 5,888 on December 7th., were offered. The. bulk comprised wools ol the lourtli count and over, a number < of station clips of half-bred and merino wools going represented. There was a full bench of Home and Colonial buyers. Values for merinos wen; practically the same as at recent sales, and super hnlf-breds appreciated by about 10 per cent, or over Id petlb.

Except for a few choice lines of threequarter bred and fine crossbred, these grades showed no improvement. Coarse crossrods met with spiritless competition ,and sold at lower rates than previously. The hulk of the passings comprised the lower grade wools, there being a clearance up to the dinner adjournment this evening of quite 75 per cent, of the finer grades. The southern wool firms secured practically all the good merino offered, Home buyers and fellmongers taking half-bred. Throughout a much healthier tone was displayed than at the preceding auction. Super merino brought up to 181(1; and a choice lot of North Canterbury half-bred to 171(1; a few lots of super three-quarter bred to 121(1; Corriedalc to 15) ; two special lots of fine crossbred to 10) and lid, and South-down to 111.

The sale is being continued this evening, and will conclude in the morning. The following is the comparison of values at the last sale and to-da.vs (58’s to 64 .s.) ;
