NE WYORK, Jan 13. Senator Phelan of California 'declared that the garrisoning of the United States naval base at Hawaii was done by Japanese njeruifed into the American National Guard ,who owe dual allegiance to the United States and to Japan.
ANGLO-JAPANESE ALLIANCE.
NEW YORK, Jan 13. The New York ‘‘Evening Post’s” Paris correspondent has received from Count Isliii a copy of the 1911 AngloJapane.se Alliance discussing Article Four absolving either England or Japan from declaring war in support of eo eh other against a third party other than which either has the arbitration Treaty. The correspondent points out that America would be amply protected if she would ratify the Arbitration Treaty, which Taft negotiated with Britain, but which the Republican State did not ratify. Count Isliii stated that Japan in 1910 realised that the alliance witli England might be embarrassing in view of the Anglo-American negotiations, herself suggested Article Four, thus voluntarily depriving herself of Britain’s support in the event of hostilities between Japan and America. Count Isbii added:—“Japan no more thinks of war with the United States to-day than in 1911. If we were to make the threat now Japan would again (suggest the inclusion of Article Four. William McGrath a leading .King’s Counsel was shot at his Dublin home and died later. The outrage is mysterious. McGrath did not participate in politics. McGrath, who is President of the out of work fund Committee said before his death that he. had to turn down many claims, and if ho should die these people would be responsible. GREEK CAPTURE. (Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan 14. Greeks have captured Bozeuyuk after considerable resistance, the enemy having concentrated there for the defence of Eskishhir. The enemy has now retreated to Eskishhir. Kemalists suffered heavy losses. The Greeks had forty killed and 160 wounded.
