WESTLAND HOSPITALS AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12th

The Board met at 8.10 p.m. Present —Messrs R. Wild (Chairman), Davidson, Chinn', Monk, Ritchie, Evans. An apology was made for the absence of AI r Morel.

The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From D. Spence, Rimu notify his intention to stop supplying bread to the institution on 31st. January.—Received. The question of supply was referred to the Chairman of the House Committee/ to arrange.

From Dr. Valintine, Wellington asking for return showing particulars of capital proposals.—Received ; to be supplied af{hr March meeting. From Same, stating plans for steam laundry building are receiving attention and should be shortly available.—

Received ; Mr Davidson moved that tenders lie' invited as soon as the plans (•nine to band. Seconded by Mr Evans

and carried. From Government Statist, Wellington, re returns for Otira Hospital for last soar.—Received.

From Dr Bathgate, Otira expressing surprise at tone of letter from Board’s Secretary res returns and stating lie

was quite prepared to fall in with suggestions for proposed visits to Arthur’s Pa ss.—R eeei ved.

The Chairman reported having* visited Otira and having bad an interview with Mr Gillies, Mr .Jeffries (in charge at Otira), Mr Behan (Chairman of bailor Committee) and Dr Bathgate, in

connection with improvements to the hospital building at Otira. The holidays had since intervened hut no work had been done since. The Chairman moved that the Canterbury Board he asked to approve of the proposal to pay Dr Bathgate £2O per year for making visits when necessary to Arthur’s Pass. Seconded by Mr Evans and carried.

It was resolved that the present medical applications in hand he forwarded to the Ross Committee for consideration and failing approval, that the Chairman be authorised to invito applications.

From Dr. Greenwood, Kumara. in connection with matters referred to. Received and approved. From I). .McLean, Ltd., of Greymouth re sugar supply.- Received. A number of letters were read dealing with maintenance accounts were received and dealt with. From Registrar General, Wellington forwarding return of Births during last five years.- Received. From N. Edwards, tendering resignation of position as housemaid at Westland Hospital.—Received and accepted with regret. From Afaster, Old Peoples’ Home reporting list of donations from residents of Kumara for the Xmas festivities.—Received. Alir Davidson 'expressed his appreciation of the generosity of the people of Kumara in supplying comforts for the old people and moved that they lie. thanked for their generosity. Seconded by AH Evans and carried. Consideration was deferred till the Alarch meeting of presentation of reports of sub-committee on maternity homes at Ross and Hokitika. Consideration of altering the lighting system of Kumara Home was deferred till the Alarch meeting. Contributions of £2B from Otira Committee were received. The House Committee of AVestland ffltyspital reported ;that thanks were due to the kind donors of gifts for the patients at Xmas; that the dairyman should take over the duty of looking after the piggoiry.

The Finance Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to ,0594 Is lid.—Received and adopted. The Treasurer reported receipts £642 11s sd; payments 01144 12s 2d; Dr. balance £447 6s 9d.—Received. Visitors hours to Kuinarn Home were fixed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.in. The Board rose at 10.20 p.m.
