BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. AUSTRALIAN AND N.'/.. CABLE ASSOCIATION. FA 111 Kit O’FLANAGAN’S MISSION. 1 LONDON, Januarp 11. It is believed that Father O’Flanagan’s ’(the Si ,in Fein vicet-President) mission to England has proved a failure. This is believed to be owing to an inability on his part to show that ho had any definite authority from the Sinn Fein organisation. / _ ’ Dll. MANNIX IGNORED. j LONDON, January 11. j The Australian Press Association re- ' ports being officially informed that Archbishop Mannix is now making some overtures to the British GovernI ment, through intermediaries, with a view to establishing an entente with Sinn Fein. The Government, however attaches no importance to Dr Mannix and regards his overtures as futile. ' DE VALERA. „ LONDON, 1 January 11. The Sinn Fein President Mr Eamonn do Valera has broken his silence in Ire- . land, by publishing a long statement in the “Irish Bulletin,” the secret-ly-circulated Sinn Fein organ. Mr de Valera attempts to discredit the English Cabinet’s lately published “White Paper.” He denies that there was any German plot in 1918. The Sinn Fein President says: “The document on army organisation attributed to me, was not in my handwriting. I did not compose: it, as the British Givermnent'jstates. The discovery of the whole of this “plot” is due to Carson. The British .Government, by sheer audacity of lying are trying to deceive the English people and also foreigners.”

Mr de Valera makes no effort to counter the detailed evidence as contained in the “White Paper.”
