SCIENCE CONGRESS. MELBOURNE, Jan. 12. At the Science Congress, Judge .Murray, Lieut-Governor of Papua, read a paper on anthropology and government of subject races, specially interesting in view of Australia assuming the government of mandate territories. He urged the need for studying the anthropology of natives and conserving such of their customs and institutions as were harmless or helped as an instrument of good. Government, in view of this, announced a government antropologist would shortly be appointed.

C. J. Degnnis left Sydney at eleven on Tuesday morning in a 375 horse power aeroplane and arrived at Brisbane via Grafton at 5.3, the actual flying time being four hours fifty minutes. He is leaving Brisbane on Sunday morning and will endeavour to reach Melbourne for dinner at night.
