SCIENCE CONGRESS. MELBOURNE, Jan. 12. At the Science Congress, Judge .Murray, Lieut-Governor of Papua, read a paper on anthropology and government of subject races, specially interesting in view of Australia assuming the government of mandate territories. He urged the need for studying the anthropology of natives and conserving such of their customs and institutions as were harmless or helped as an instrument of good. Government, in view of this, announced a government antropologist would shortly be appointed.
AN AIR JOURNEY. BRISBANE, Jan. 12
C. J. Degnnis left Sydney at eleven on Tuesday morning in a 375 horse power aeroplane and arrived at Brisbane via Grafton at 5.3, the actual flying time being four hours fifty minutes. He is leaving Brisbane on Sunday morning and will endeavour to reach Melbourne for dinner at night.

At the Science Congress, Professor Griffiths Taylor, dealing with future white settlement, predicted a grave fear regarding the food supply of white people. Within the next century whites would tend to crowd tho five world centres, London, Chicago, Sydney Durban, and Buenos Ayres. Taylor said a geographical study of the position emphasised the necessity ot a close alliance with United States.
WHEAT CERTIFICATES. MELBOURNE, Jan 12. Certificates involving seventeen million sterling will lie paid farmers on Friday by the Wheat Board being tho first payment of 2s fid per bushel.
