COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. MASTERTON, Jan. 11

Janies Archer, formerly Town Clerk and engineer of Masterton, charged with having falsified documents, pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. There are fourteen charges, extending over a period from May, 1917, to October, 1919.

Coal for th relief of the gas shortage | in Auckland should arrive in the c ity j shortly. The steamer Kamo, with 1300 | tons on hoard for the Gas Company, is j expected to leave Westport to-night for this port, and should arrive hero on Thursday. Just as soon as the cargo is landed the Gas Company expects to be in a . position to give an improved service to gas consumers. The delay in i the departure of the Kamo lias been | due to the reduced output at the j mines. The gas pressure in the subur- j ban areas was lowered during Saturday , and Sunday, except for the dinner hour and a period in the evening to provide lighting for the clmrchcs. However, a full supply was given up to 8 o'clock last night, but to-day, and until the Company gets the coal it requires, the supply will be reduced to that of Saturday. FOUND HANGED. GREYMOUTII, Jan. 12 This morning a returned soldiei named Hunter, was found hanged in a bath room at the Temperance Hotel. He arrived from Recfton on Monday night. He was a married man of about 80 years of age.
