Guerilla warfare in Ireland was renewed during the week-end, particularly in Cork and Waterford. Following on an ambush near Cork, tanks wore used for military reprisals. KNIGHT BACHELOR. (Received This Day at 5.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 10. Lathlaiji, Mayor of Perth, was made a Knight Bachelor on the occasion of Perth’s jubilee. FRENCH ELECTIONS. (Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) PARIS, Jan. 10. Five Ministers were returned in The Senate elections. Richard, Minister Agriculture, was defeated. Conserva- . tives lost a few seats. The situation generally is unchanged. The press emphasises the complete check suffered by the Socialists, none of whoso candidates were elected. The Communist vote was insignificant.
Marcel Huton in the “Echo de Paris” says the elections have strengthened the Ministry, which will not entertain the idea of a redistribution of portfolios. *
The “Figaro” says tho results show a tendency to political moderation,''devoid of sectarianism.
