GASSED POACHER. YEVEY, Nov. 15. Siza, the poacher besieged lora night and a •morning in his cottage near St Julieii-en-Genevois, close to the Lake of Geneva, by 30 gendarmes, has surrendered. When challenged on Thursday by a Swiss gendarms as ho was crossing the frontier, Siza shot him dead and also , wounded a gamekeeper. Me then barricaded himself in his cottage and re-1 sisted the gendarmes with his three I rifles and two revolvers. i 'About noon yesterday the Mayor of St Jlilien had a short conversation with him from the shelter of a neighbouring house, hut did not persuade him to give in. The house could not be set on fire, as it is one of a row. So next the fire brigade went and turned on a hose for an hour—without result. Then someone .had an inspiration Metal tubes were pushed through the roof, and sulphuretted hydrogen was 1 pumped into the interior of the cottage. In a few minutes the wanted man appeared at the door, his hands above his .head.
