The report that the Chief of Police, a British officer, had been assassinated at Bagdad, is exaggerated. A native police inspector was shot, but no British. officer was concerned. The murder was due to personal revenge, and was not political. IN MESOPOTAMIA. (Received This Day at 8.40 a.m.) DELHI, Jan. G. Important reconstruction work is now going on in Mesopotamia. The most pressing problem is the creation of local levies to replace British forces. A commission is now visiting the scene of the recent disturbances m middle Euphrates to make recommendations regarding the future administration.
