AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. COAL OUTPUT. (Received This Day at 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY’, January 5. The coal owners are concerned at thc continued induction ‘in output. The 1913 output was 12} million tons, and in 1919 nine millions. The number of tuen was increased by 1267 during the same period. The output per man in 1913 was 553 tons in 1919, 549 tons, and in 1920 490 tons. The working hours average 6 hours daily. The outoutput was 6 million below market rerequirements and one million below* A i listralian consulmpt ion. SEPARATE STATES. SYDNEY, January 5. It is suggested that Riverina, followin the lead of the northern tablelands, should agitate for a separate state or become attached to Victoria, a section of the Melbourne press iH giving prominence to the question. There is nothing definite otherwise. FAIR RENTS COURT. SYDNEY, January 5. The fair rents Court during the year reduced rents in 146 case and increased them in 243 cases. STEWARD’S STRIKE.
SYDNEY, January 5. There have been no development in the stewards strike. Monte, General Secretary, states they are prepared for a six months strike if necessary. MELBOURNE, January 5. The city is practically deserted, as the result of the curtailment of the tram services. Mr Hughes is still out of town, but is expected back it the end of the week. There arc 10500 unemployed and forty two thousand tons of shipping are idle. RAILWAYS STRIKE. (Received This Day at 9.45 a.m.) PERTH, January 5. A mass meeting of railway unions attended by a thousand supported the locomotive men. Thc Premier has issued a statement appealing to the public to decide Government and Soviet. The Returned Soldiers Executive passed a resolution of loyalty, reaffirming the league's principles of supporting law and order. RESIGNED.
