PARIS, Nov. 3. Baccarat has been unusually profitable this year to the Casino at Deauville. It is calculated that more than £7,000,000 changed hands during the season. A Greek shipowner, M. Yagliiino, at one sitting during August made £72.000. This was tile largest amount won on any one day, but the highest average win is credited to M. Hannibal Mesa, who while at Deauville made £140,000. The Casino authorities made on their baccarat tables £690,000. The roulette was not much favoured, and the Casino takings amounted to only £50,000. Of these profits the French Government takes £184,000 and the city of Deauville £72,000. A GREAT FIRE. Fire broke out in the top floor of the Hop Exchange, Borough, S.E., towards midnight last night, and spread lyThe exchange is situated at the London Bridge end of South wark-street and consists of store-rooms packed with bops and a large number of offices. It is a narrow six-storied building. The lire started at the eastern end, and on the arrival of the first fire engines the firemen found it impossible to apply water to the flames owing to the height of the building. It was not until tire escapes arrived that the firemen were able to play on the flames from the Tops of the ladders. Meanwhile the (lames had made considerable headway. They shot up to the height of 40 to 50 feet, and the ashes and hop leaves were carried as far as the Blackfriars end ot the Embankment, a mile away, where they fell white and fleecy-like. The blaze was accentuated by the inflammable nature of the hops, and the fire spread rapidly from the front to the rear of the narrow building.
