MICH COMMISSIONER’S CARLE. WELLINGTON, Dec. 31. The High Commissioner cables under date, December 24tli : Meat.—The market was irregular this week, and prices have fluctuated considerably. Good supplies of fresh and C’ont inential meat are available. Ihe •demand is running on poultry and pork. A supply of chilled href was available yesterday for the Christinas trade. Av_ erago closing prices:—Home-killed heed Is A'd, mutton Is 7d, lamb Is ltßd per lb. In imported there is a good trade, New Zealand on arrival passing into consumption readily. Uruguay pigs have just arrived, and are selling slowly at Jls Jd.
Butter. —With good supplies the market. is easier. Irish spot offerings consist chiefly of over-stored supplies, for which the demand is slow at £ls 8s to £l6 16s per cwt (2s 9d to 3s per lb); Government umhanued at £l6 16s per cwt wholesale (3s 4d per 11) retail). Choose. —Trade is quiot on account of the holidays. English, £.B 10s up to C 9 7s per cwt (Is 6d to Is 8d per lh) for host farmers’. Canadian is firmer at £7 8s to £7 14s per cwt (Is 3 a t d to Is 4}d per lb) for white; Ci 14s to £7 18s per cwt (Is 4Jd to Is Ad per lb) for coloured. Hemp.—The Manilla market is easier, with very little business passing. “ J crude values above Oetober-Dccetnbcr and Novembor-Jnntiary shipments, £56 per ton; Januarv-March shipment £54 10s per ton. For New Zealand hemp the market is dull, and quotations are unchanged.
